Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials - Wayne State
Agent: Soy Isoflavones (Genistein)
Contact: Omar Kucuk, M.D.
DCP Program Director: Howard Parnes, M.D.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the potential of Genistein, a soy isoflavone, as a chemopreventive agent for prostate cancer. Men with a diagnosis of prostate cancer who are considering surgical removal of the prostate gland (prostatectomy) or seed implants (brachytherapy) may be eligible to participate in this study. Those taking part in the study will receive soy isoflavones (Genistein) for several weeks immediately before prostate surgery or radiation therapy. The study is now closed to accrual.
[This is a phase 2 randomized double-blind placebo controlled phase 2 trial of three doses of soy isoflavones (genistein) administered for 2 to 6 weeks in the period prior to prostatectomy or brachytherapy in men with localized prostate cancer. The primary endpoint is modulation of markers of oxidative stress in the serum and prostate.]
